House, M.D.

In reaction to the Golden Globes the other night...

I give you... Hugh Laurie! AKA Dr. Gregory House.

James Hugh Calum Laurie was born in Oxford, England on June 11, 1959. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge. Son of an Olympic gold medallist in the sport, he rowed for the England youth team (1977) and for Cambridge (1980). He met Emma Thompson at Cambridge in 1978 when both joined Footlights, and was introduced to Stephen Fry by Emma in 1980. Hugh is married and lives in London with his wife and three children. Besides acting and comedy, he has written the best-selling thriller The Gun Seller, is working on a screenplay for the film version, and has a second novel being published in 2000.

Achieved a third-class degree in Anthropology & Archaeology at Selwyn College, Cambridge University.

He lives in a West Hollywood apartment rental while working on "House, M.D." (2004), but flies home to London to be with his family whenever he has a break in filming. Has said that he will move his whole family to America to be with him if the second season looks to be equally successful as the first.

His father, William George Ranald Mundell, and mother, Patricia, are both of Scottish descent.

His father won an Olympic gold medal for coxless pairs in the 1948 Games. Hugh also had a promising career as an oarsman, but he was forced to give it up while at Cambridge when he contracted glandular fever (mononucleosis). His brother was also an oarsman.

He is also an accomplished piano player

Although his first name is "James," he has never been called that. His third name "Calum" is an old Scottish variant of the name Malcolm. His brother's full name is Charles Alexander Lyon Mundell Laurie.

Moving Back In

Today, after a long sleep, I got packing. All of the clothes I would need, all of the new things I've gotten for Christmas, and everything else that I need to survive were packed into my little car. After that two hour ordeal, I managed to hit the road. I stopped for some McDonald's in Alma to give me energy for the last leg of my journy "home." I called Marc as I rolled into town and he helped me carry in and unload all of belongings. I would say that the whole process only took about 1hr. Jennifer and Ashley, whose things were already stroon about the dorm, came home just as Marc and I were about to leave. We took my car to the freshman parking area, surprisingly, the closest lot was not yet filled. I guess everyone wanted to prolong break as much as they could; I don't blame them. After parking my car, Marc and I went to his place and watched some TV: some National Geographic, followed by Desperate Housewives at 9, and Gray's Anatomy at 10. I am home now, listening to Rufus (I missed him so...) on my new headphones. I bought them yesterday with Matt at the Lansing Mall with money from my mother (Christmas lasted a long time in my house). It was a great time, I got a bunch of Bath & Body Works stuff. Thats right... I pulled Matt into the pit of femininity that is... B&BW.
