A place where Jennifer's sense of reality is Truth.

This Weekend

I had a very busy weekend. Since I am in college, I will start my weekend on Thursday...

Ryan Johnson had been wanting to go to the Corpus Christi bible study at Sacred Heart for a while now and so we planned on going this thursday. Jennifer's mother had planned on taking me, Ashley, and Jennifer out to Pondarosa for dinner. So, Ryan and I didn't drive together, and I got there a big late, but eventually all was well. A guy with a great voice joined in singing the Hail Mary's and Jenny had a very good bible study prepared. Afterward, my future roommate, Sarah, and Ryan and I all went to Linda's together (we always have some food and games at her house after bible study). There we had some awesome cookies and played scatagories. Adam Halfman (who I had introduced to Ryan online becasue we are all working on a project together), Jon Pohl, Ryan, and I talked for a long time about the differences between the Anglican, Epicopal, and Roman Catholic churches. I got home that night around 12:30-1am

To begin with, I had thought that the concert was on sunday, and my parents were supposed to visit me on saturday, bringing with them money and my dress for the concert. On Friday at noon I found out that the concert was on the 25th. Meaning that my mom and dad brought my dress and things to me on Friday evening. BUT, i also thought that the banquet was at normal open house time, 7pm, but it was actually at 5pm. Thank goodness for Ryan Johnson being online and telling me at 4:45. With my parents on the way, and a banquet aproaching, I scurried around trying to find something to wear and looking for my key/ID. It is very good luck that I had already gotten my car from the far lot, because I didnt leave my dorm until after 5, without my key, cell phone in hand, frantically re-dialling my dad's new cell phone number. Once i reached my mother, she was only 10 min away and I was across campus in the Trout parking lot, ready to go in to the banquet. I told her to just leave my things in the room, since it was unlocked, due to my lack of a key to lock it.

Once I was got to Trout Kristen was there to tell me that Ryan had told me the wrong location, we were actually in Larzey. Finally, I arrived at the banquet. There was a name marker and everything, I san to the right of Ryan, Mark was on his left, and Kristen was on the other end. Most of the rest of InterVarsity were there as well. There was dim lighting and soft music, the dinner moved slow, and I really liked that.

That photo is actually from a while ago, but all three of the people shown (Tricia, Ryan and I) well all at the banquet, Ryan was even wearing the same thing, haha.

At 8 pm Krista, Brandon, and I, with Ryan driving, went to the skating rink. On the way Ryan desided to do some off-roading in a field and almost flipped his jimmy into a ditch. It was a good time. We also listened to some weird techno music... some of which was German.

After skating (which reminds me, I owe Ryan $2) we went to Liz and Sarah's apartment. We played some Dance Dance Revolution and then played a really cool game about secrets. The leader would choose a catagory of secret (such as "secrets involving food") and everyone would write one down. The leader would read the secrets and everyone would take turns guessing who the secret matched to. At about 2am we decided to call it a night. I had to call up to my room and have someone let me in because the doors were locked by then and I didn't have my ID to get in at the front desk. Luckily Jennifer and her boyfriend were still up, he let me in and he went back to his dorm.

Later that morning, my alarm went off at 9am. I, as usual, fell back asleep after shutting it off. It's a good thing Jennifer's alarm was set for 9:45 because I was supposed to be at the music building boarding a bus for Saginaw at that time. I ran around, brushing my teeth and shoving everything else i needed into a bag. Luckily there were a few people late, so they weren't just waiting on me. I got the last available seat on the bus, next to Dr. Gumm. I didn't mind, I love my professors. We were all given a free lunch from Max & Emily's. I have a ham sandwich, potato salad, and a cookie with a bottle of water.

Once we got to the Temple Theater in Saginaw, we had to hike all of out stuff up to the freezing third floor and wait for our rehersal time with Voca Lyrica, the adult women's chorus we were singing with that night. We had only rehersed once before with them, on the Sunday that I couldn't go up north. Dr. Gumm, along with the rest of us, were very worried about how things were coming together, but once we were in the theater everything started coming together. After rehersing with the orcestra we went to St. John's Epicopal Church for dinner.

Weird Note: The bass player looked exactly like Ryan Johnson. Ryan Johnson was very excieted that I was going to that church... he likes to talk about, look at, and even draw, old churches... he would like to restore them someday.

Once at the church, we had some Little Cesar's pizza, pop, more cookies, and some yummy asian chicken salad. After dinner we got dressed and warmed our voices up again, practicing our consinents again. At about 7:45 we went back to the theater, and back up those steps for the fourth or fifth time...

We waited for a time, warmed up, and went on stage. The songs went very well. We waited another hour for the show to end. We got on the bus and arrived home at 11:30pm.

Weird Note: Dr. Gumm, like the great David Stattelman, are both from Iowa.

Once I got back to my dorm I saw how Ashley and Jennifer has rearranged my half of the room (Jennifer had asked that morning if it woudl be ok). I really like what they did and should ge them somthing... I don't know what yet, but something. I got my things around and headed out for home, pulling into my driveway at about 1:10am.

After a day of drawing 3 self-portraits, 2 still lifes, and two fabric sketches, I was about ready to throw my pencils, paper, charcoal, and erasers out the window. My self-portraits are probably the worste pieces of crap i've ever seen, but that's ok, because they are done. I made dinner for my family, finished up the drawings, and headed back up here at about 9:30pm Sunday night.

That night I made the slight alterations to my room that needed to be fixed and got Eric (Jennifer's boyfriend) to walk me back from my car after parking it in the far lot. Once back in the room, I wrote a two page paper about William M. Harnett's The Old Violin. It's in the tromp l'oiel style, meant to fool the eye into believing its real. It speaks to the difficulties that come with the passing of time and how things are changed by change. I went to bed at about 3am... and still got up for my Math class on time!

Jail Tales ("The Prostitute" featured)

As Rachael knows, I wrote these in high school or Mrs. Fox's class. It's dirty... but thats the way Mrs. Fox likes it. Children should be warned to cover their eyes now before they are perminently damaged. I don't really know why i'm posting these... i just found them on my computer.

Introduction
For as many years as laws have been made,
People have been braking them, I’m afraid.
Back in the days or trees, sinners and snakes,
Life was so simple but trouble one makes.
The asp from deep Hell came up and parleyed,
With pure, young, sweet Eve, and he did persuade
Her and her mate to covet that tree’s fruit.
Fruit of which God said eating did not suite.
The premier "Thou shalt not" they disobeyed.
Since this first sin many more, men have made.
Today vices lurk around every bend.
Giving into them may lead to your end.
But still people do, ev’ry single day.
If caught by me they know they will pay.
Criminals, I find, when rocks are turned over.
Inmates collect from Fresno to Dover.
No matter to me what crime one commits
Delinquents, for sure, with no limits.
That’s why they’re hauled in, for me to keep.
Guilty ‘til innocent, don’t want a peep.
They all will get their day in court,
But ‘til they are let free I will not sort
Between right and wrong and guilty and not.
I treat them the same, the whole rotten lot.

The Prostitute
An unclean broad, with disheveled, bleached locks.
At her port, each night a new someone docks.
She’d been ridden hard and put away wet,
The game that she played was that of roulette.
I could smell her vice from a good distance.
Her john must have been of quite a potence.
The bitter stench of sex oozed from each pore
The scent that so clung to every whore.
Allure there had been, but long since left her.
She once may have had quite a nice figure,
But pantyhose and pink micro minis
Can’t cover what men see in their skivvies.
Her legs go for miles, with 6 inch heals on.
Her legs I bet are what snagged her this john.
She wasn’t fresh faced, her eyes had seen things,
Deep blue, almost purple, beauty that stings.
A good heart in her dwelt, somewhere hidden.
No one could get it, love was forbidden.
That she’s in this work is really a shame,
‘Nother life, ‘nother world, what a nice dame.

Conclusion
I’ve assembled a group in these hours,
All have found ways to abused their powers.
A prostitute and her john walked the streets.
Now cold in their cell they await their trials.
A shoplifter was caught stealing her goods.
Is it worth all this trouble for new duds?
A nutty liberal out to save the world,
Under her mattress she is tightly curled.
Drugs can be found all around this city,
The dealers make their catching to easy.
A strange one now, the serial killer,
This victims so weak, and he a thriller.
Fist fights are common, to be true, they are.
But awful each time, a curse of the bar.
Another victim of the devil drink,
A drunk who crashes, never tried to think.
All these criminals have much in common,
All here now talking of what’s gone on.
Each one tells of the mess they got into
The judge will decide which stories are true.

InterVarsity

Look, its Nick! Anyways, last night was fun. Usually the first part in Trout is more fun... but i think the birthday party made up for it. Gambling was fun... even with the cop. Sarah, you should have been there, you missed that kid over there <<< lol. Nick is a funny kid. I wish Ryan and Kristen would have been there last night. They r both in my small group for bible study, they are cool. So, how was the drive home?

Brad Somebody

Well, last night i went to the Corpus Cristi bible study (and everything else associated with it) with Brad Sjo...jick?... whatever. Jon Pohl was the bible study leader... so... yeah, it was very excieting to say the least. Adam Halfman was there, what a fun cat. British Jenni was funny. They r all (not exactly all...) are coming to Fowler... what a crazy place to go, i know.

Well it was fun meeting the people at the dinner after the bible study and i liked the rosary (they singe the first hail mary of a decade, so that was sweet), but the bible study was more boring than any of my classes this semester. When I go to bible study with intervarsity we do manuscripting, where we have a print-out of the text and we can mark it up with notes and then we ask eachother questions about what we think and yeah, its great fun. I actually have to think. Listening to Jon Pohl give a bible study is like the opposite of thinking. I just sat there and tried to listen... he just kept reading encyclicals. I'm sorry, but i'm not there to study inciclicals, i'm there to study the bible. i care about the pope, and he knows what he's saying, but i don't like not thinking. I love Jon Pohl, i just really don't like his bible studies... unless of course i'm trying to go to sleep.

Now i feel conflicted. i like the people and i like that we can pray and be so catholic... i've been missing that. but, i dont like how terribly unbarably boring the bible study part of the the bible study is. what do u think?
